StarGarden MoonWatch for the Full Moon, November 5th, 2006
I’m Maria Theresa Maggi, intuitive astrologer here on KRFP in Moscow, Idaho, and you’re listening to the StarGarden MoonWatch for the full moon of November 5, 2006.
In November the moon is full in Taurus, the sign of the bull. Taurus gives us the opportunity to experience what our values bring us. Do we appreciate material comforts and financial security for our loved ones? Do we value a practical hands-on wisdom and an ability to “stick with” someone or something, rather than cutting our losses and running? At this full moon, Taurus helps us feel our feelings through our senses, and gives us an experiential object lesson about what we value. Since this is a full moon opposing a Scorpio sun still flanked by Mars and Venus, following up both Mercury and Jupiter, all in Scorpio, the tendency to dig in our emotional heels where a partner’s resources or worth are concerned may be a prominent theme. Issues or experiences having to do with legacy and inheritance may also be very prominent. Since Taurus is the first earth sign, this legacy could have to do with the future of the planet itself, the quality of soil, the ability for us to maintain and nurture fertile ground for future generations, either in terms of family inheritance or cultural and planetary inheritance.
In our culture of haste and waste, the fact that Taurus is never in too big a hurry to stop and smell the roses or sample the soup, is a hidden blessing. The apparent stubbornness we experience in others or feel within ourselves is often a signal to slow down and regroup. What is driving us in such haste? If we hurry though everything, are we giving what is fundamentally important a chance to take root?
In her powerful book, When Things Fall Apart, Buddhist nun Pema Chodron describes the Tibetan concept of “maitri,” which means loving kindness or unconditional friendliness. Her description of how this can arise out of what begins as egotistical stubbornness is a good illustration of the spectrum of Taurus potential:
“Sometimes it seems we have a preference for darkness and speed. We can protest and complain and hold a grudge for a thousand years. But in the midst of the bitterness and resentment, we have a glimpse of the possibilities of maitri. We hear a child crying or smell that someone is baking bread. We feel the coolness of the air or see the first crocus of spring. Despite ourselves we are drawn out by the beauty in our own backyard.”
Here are some suggestions for each of the sun signs for how to let the possibilities of loving kindness for the earth and all her inhabitants ground us at the Taurus full moon:
Aries: Your own feelings about money or stability may be greatly influenced by your own family legacy or that of a partner. It is important to allow for what is really the case rather than what you want it to be.
Taurus: You may be a source of grounding for a partner going through a big transformation. Or, you may wish to maintain a status quo while the big picture forces a transformation on many levels.
Gemini: You may need to call on a strong sense of emotional grounding you can’t explain but somehow just believe in. This helps you while things in your personal history, health or work undergo deep change.
Cancer: Securing the future for your children or a creative or educational project has you going deep in terms of personal expression. You want to get to the bottom of things, yet also know the future cannot be rushed.
Leo: A situation or feeling about home, emotional or financial security is undergoing a deep change. You want to give a public impression you feel steady as you go through this, but it’s actually a test of your mettle.
Virgo: You may want to guard feelings you feel right about. Or you could enjoy slowing down in terms of education or travel. Either way, you have a lot of thoughts to process about how your environment has changed.
Libra: A hidden source of money might reveal itself. Or you may become more aware of how playing it close to the vest might make partners or family members feel more stubborn toward you. Try to open it up a little.
Scorpio: Your history of attracting situations you also want to resist could be very prominent right now. It’s important to find a way to stay grounded through these inner conflicts. A partner may help you find ground.
Sagittarius: The spiritual transformation, addiction or illness of a family member could be prominent. You may understand intuitively something is ending. You can either hold on, or feel the necessity of being grounded.
Capricorn: There may be a lot of deep change, intrigue or disciussion of past history where friends or groups are concerned. Your place is to stay grounded in the values you cherish the most, and live by them.
Aquarius: Maybe you are pulled into investigating an institutional standard having to do with medical or educational requirements. It’s important to keep your mood practical and grounded as you explore all your options.
Pisces: You could be drawn to occult or spiritual activities that seem all encompassing. It’s essential to remember to feel your own pulse and let it guide you as you begin to communicate what you have learned.
The influence of the planet Uranus in Pisces at this full moon gives practical Taurus a good playful dose of magical surprise and reversal with the hint of a fairy tale. This may have us facing our own stodgy or limiting beliefs about who should be making us comfortable, just as John and Michael must do in Peter Pan, when they arrive in Neverland, and discover how their sister has been elevated to the stature of having a house built around her as she sleeps.
“ ‘Hullo, replied Peter amicably, though he had quite forgotten them. He was very busy at the moment measuring Wendy with his feet to see how large a house she would need. . ..John and Michael watched him.
‘Is Wendy asleep?’ they asked. . .
‘John,’ Michael proposed, ‘let us wake her and get her to make supper for us’: but as he said it some of the other boys rushed on carrying branches for the building of the house. ‘Look at them!’ he cried.
‘Curly,’ said Peter in his most captainy voice, ‘see that these boys help in the building of the house.’
‘Ay, ay, Sir.’
‘Build a house?’ exclaimed John.
‘For the Wendy,’ said Curly.
‘For Wendy?’ John said, aghast. ‘Why, she is only a girl.’
‘That,” explained Curly, ‘is why we are her servants.’
‘You? Wendy’s servants!’
‘Yes,’ said Peter, and you also. Away with them.’
The astounded brothers were dragged away to hack and hew and carry.”
If we willingly suspend our own disbelief to make loving kindness for our planet and each other a reality at this full moon, then we are already positioned to shine our lights shed some light, and keep it light!!
