StarGarden MoonWatch for the New Moon, September 22nd, 2006

Hello Everyone,

I’m Maria Theresa Maggi, intuitive astrologer here on KRFP in Moscow, Idaho, and you’re listening to the StarGarden MoonWatch for the new moon of September 22, 2006.

We begin a new lunar cycle in the last degree of Virgo, just hours before the sun reaches the Fall equinox point at 0 degrees Libra.. This new moon also forms an annular solar eclipse.  The tarot archetype for Virgo is the Hermit, who is considered the light bearer, and this symbolism is profoundly reinforced as in the last hours before the balance point of fall equinox, the moon shadows the sun, and we are asked to work by the light from within as we make our final preparations for the Fall season.  So this new moon emphasizes a beginning that is also an ending. As the sign that presides over the harvest, Virgo’s energy is usually forward looking, intent on planning and preparing what is necessary for the future. But the reversal of energy astrological symbolism assigns to an eclipse may have us instead reaching into the past as the necessary means of finding a transformative strategy for moving forward into the unexplored territory. Another reversal we might feel is that of using the usual tools of Virgo analysis to manage our emotions. Instead we may use an emotional starting point, moving in a certain direction which is unclear except  for the feeling that it simply “feels right.” Also at this new moon, the energy we begin with may feel more like that of Pisces, Virgo’s opposite, as we follow those feelings of wanting to merge with something invisible yet larger than ourselves. The eclipse path itself mirrors this flip over in the sense that most of it crosses the South Atlantic Ocean, over open sea, where it will not be seen, so both the location and the relative invisibility of it is more typically Piscean than Virgoan.

Initiating plans for travel, education, publishing and even spiritual exploration require letting deep truths and forces move us beyond what is written in our day planners and calendars. It is our search for the truth that comes back to meet US at this time, and it may lead us far afield from the routines we’ve become used to. They may now seem unhealthy or unworkable or obsolete, as we begin to feel the need for nothing less than a rebirth. Whatever routine is now shifting, it’s time to get serious about what we know is true and what is real in our hearts, and leave behind any habits, procedures or situations that prevent us from doing so. The water energy in our lives, or just feeling “saturated” or unable to stop tears we can usually fight back, will remind us that not everything can be solved like a math problem or a crossword puzzle, and the pangs of birth are often painful and all encompassing. Yet this very saturation can help us to let go and experience a truly new beginning. Rilke’s beautiful poem “The Swan” illustrates the beauty available in allowing ourselves to move from an emphasis on results into the grace of process, as if it were an entirely new element:

This clumsy living that moves lumbering
as if in ropes through what is not done
reminds us of the awkward way the swan walks.

And to die, which is a letting go
of the ground we stand on and cling to every day,
is like the swan when he nervously lets himself down

into the water, which receives him gaily
and which flows joyfully under
and after him, wave after wave,
while the swan, unmoving and marvelously calm,
is pleased to be carried, each minute more fully grown,
more like a king, composed, further and further on.

Here are some suggestions for each of the sun signs for how to recognize our own search for truth and renewal come back to meet up with us:

Aries: Your efforts to balance a partnership may take a very different turn from what you feel is usually necessary. Legal, educational, spiritual studies or familial ties could play into this new start. Trust the unusual.

Taurus: A transformation of what is inherited from family or partners could occur. The history of your partnerships is center stage now. Spiritual insight may help you help others go through the same changes.

Gemini: You msy miss a partner who is away, or have emotional experiences at home that change your routine. It may seem next to impossible to get the necessary things done. Just let go of that for now.

Cancer: The solitude and concentration necessary to get work done in your immediate environment changes. Or the way you say things may flow from a more intuitive place. Either way your habit of learning will shift.

Leo: You may be shifting your notion of doing everything yourself and learn to let others help you out without criticizing them or taking it as criticism of yourself. This is a great opportunity to grow at a deep level.

Virgo: Your starting point with family members or at home is shifting profoundly. Your own emotional roots are changing. But the knowledge that what  ends also brings a new start, comes more easily at this time.

Libra: You may be standing  up for  someone who really needs it in a way that transforms  your way of understanding and communicating. Values of justice and stability are important for you to express and live by.

Scorpio: An involvement with a group, friends, or a plan for the future may take a sharp turn away from how you thought things ought to go.  Yet there is also the opportunity to act from a new understanding of what is right.

Sagittarius: What you thought was necessary in your career or in some public or institutional setting may change drastically. Or maybe it is your own authority to act that is transforming your public personae.

Capricorn: A stressful but necessary style of communicating long distance, possibly with siblings, could shift.  A friend or group who understands technology could ease limitations or bring surprise if you stay tuned.

Aquarius: You may feel overwhelmed by the emotional melt-down of someone under the stress of responsibility in teaching or child rearing. Don’t try to micro-manage. Your practical idealism and optimism can help.

Pisces:  You might feel exaggerated emotions about being criticized by a partner, and want to withdraw or draw the line. It’s important to take a deep breath and revisit your feelings in a more compassionate light.

Themes of appearance versus reality are always prominent in eclipse symbolism. It is important to move beyond the surface this new moon and be willing for the next two weeks and over the coming months to explore the shadows we usually avoid or take the plunge into deep emotional waters. When we allow ourselves to flip from one end of the polarity of Virgo’s energy to the other, we don’t need to stress out when our plans fall apart. Instead, we can experience the truth that life is what happens after you make the plans. So when that light at the end of the tunnel goes dark temporarily, we have the opportunity to find the balance by turning to the potential within us to shine our own lights, shed some light, and keep it light!!
