StarGarden MoonWatch for the Full Moon, April 13th, 2006
I’m Maria Theresa Maggi, intuitive astrologer on KRFP in Moscow, Idaho, and you’re listening to the StarGarden MoonWatch for the full moon of April 13, 2006.
The full moon of April is in the sign of Libra, the scales. In Libra, we learn the balance of partnership, by weighing our own needs in relation to the needs of those we partner with. Libra energy seeks the aesthetic and social ideal of the perfectly balanced scale. While in actual practice that is often illusive or at best a momentary experience that comes after painstaking trial and error, Libra is undeterred in its insistence such balance can be permanently achieved. That is why you will often find Librans engaged in earnest conversation about details that elude most of us, or arguments that don’t seem like arguments to them—all they are trying to do is right the balance, and so often don’t notice—or sometimes care—when their engagement leaves others feeling either mystified or irritated. On the other hand, there is no one more gracious or charming than Libra, who senses what will please and carefully weighs the social impact of each statement he or she makes, or who takes graceful pleasure in bringing people and beauty together to appreciate one another. In fact, “on the other hand” is a tailor-made phrase for Librans. Their lengthy deliberations are all made in the spirit of finding social balance. And sometimes finding that balance means switching sides right in the middle of the debate. Perhaps that is why Libra is traditionally considered both the sign of marriage and that of open enemies. Those of us who are or have been married may be the first to admit it is sometimes hard to tell the difference.
When the moon is full in Libra, the mental energy of deliberation is applied to emotional instinct. This creates the desire to act on behalf of our need to be pleasing, while also bringing the challenge of compromise and consensus. At this full moon, we may experience how our emotional need to be in balance with another must also serve an ideal of compassionate empathy if we are to find that balance. The larger truth of legal, historical or educational power plays may also come into the emotional picture. Perhaps we will find a balance that pleases by having the courage to stand in our truth in the company of those we have been trying to understand or please, and in so doing find the courage to love them as they are. Venus, the companion planet to Libra, joins Uranus in Pisces, to offer an element of surprising or sudden communication, perhaps around issues of illness or addiction or group dynamics, which may serve to rearrange our very idea of balance in relationship. The final stanza of Galway Kinnell’s poem “Flying Home” shows us how the polarity of Aries courage can be reflected in the Libran will to sustain a partnership with those we love:
And as the plane descends, it comes to me,
in the space
where tears stream down across the stars
tears fallen on the actual earth
where their shining is what we call spirit,
that once the lover
recognizes the other, knows for the first time
what is most to be valued in another,
from then on, love is very much like courage,
perhaps it is courage, and even
only courage. Squashed
out of old selves, smearing the darkness
of expectation across experience, all of us little
thinkers it brings home having similar thoughts
of landing to the imponderable world,
the transcontinental airliner,
resisting its huge weight down, comes in almost lightly,
with sudden, tiny, white puffs and long, black,
all its tires know the home ground.
Here are some suggestions for each of the sun signs for how to find the balance of letting our love become an act of courage:
Aries: Your friends may surprise you, or you may lend compassionate support to friends or family that surprises them. You also feel the power to balance big legal or philosophical issues in your social history.
Taurus: Right now your everyday well-being depends on others, or at least it feels that way. You also have the chance to balance emotional thinking with a deep understanding that you are learning from these circumstances.
Gemini: You may experience a breakthrough on a collaborative creative project that seems ideal. Yet there are still practical realities or responsibilities to master along the way. Your ties to a child could play a key role.
Cancer: Your relationship as a partner and a parent could take a surprisingly ideal turn by acting on what you believe to be true. This shift could bring a transformation of routine that invites more deep cooperation from others.
Leo: Friends and partners can bring creative alliances that have the potential to heal and energize you. It’s a busy time, and you might be low on energy, but these opportunities are worth the extra push if you can make it.
Virgo: Your values about partnership may undergo a surprising change. A deep and generous understanding of your immediate environment could help you take time for rejuvenation and reconciliation that heals.
Libra: Maybe you are willing to help a partner move in a new direction. This takes some powerful awareness of what you must give up in your own routine, but you are willing to act in the interest of the larger picture.
Scorpio: You could find a new respect for a partner’s need for more complete ir consistent involvement, if you are willing to shift your tendency to withdraw, escape or overindulge due to outside pressures.
Sagittarius: You may be juggling making plans with a spouse or friends with your own will to act on the truth. It may be hard to please everyone in a detached manner. Just call it as you see it and you’ll find the balance you seek..
Capricorn: Your family or personal relationships could take on a more public form, while you are also feeling a certain independence from them. Friends could provide deep understanding that aids your detachment.
Aquarius: Relatives or friends have you coming and going to help achieve an ideal or a goal. This may not be as much fun as you wish it were, but it also has it’s very real rewards. Trust the compassion you feel.
Pisces: You may be asking yourself if you’re doing all you can to support a partner’s health or needs. Relying on the faith you have in your ideal of partnership will help you find the will and energy to act accordingly.
The full moon is typically a fruition point in the lunar cycle. When we have experienced a solar eclipse at the beginning of the cycle, the emotional instinct to reflect our own light in response to the earth’s shadow blocking the sun can be a very powerful force of renewal, which, in a sense, makes the full moon a release point that is also a beginning. The wine and plum colors of birth are also the colors of Libra, the point at which the sun sets on the self and we are born into our relationships with others. This reality can be heightened in the next two weeks by our creative endeavors, since Libra and Venus are patrons of the arts. Creative or artistic expression holds the potential for the unleashing of powerful truths, as does legal argument and academic research. Perhaps these arenas will be the places where those surprising and empathic new forms of collaborative communication will emerge. As the days lengthen, and the spring flowers begin to bloom, Libra calls us to join with the beauty around us, and share our appreciation of it with others we may have been withholding from. When we give where it is most needed, we truly do find the courage to shine our lights, shed some light, and keep it light!
